The incident happened after last season's Premiership title triumph over Hearts. This Sunday, Celtic welcome back Hearts for the first time since the final day clash last season.
The dramatic match saw Callum Osmand score a 97th-minute goal, securing a 3-1 victory and the championship for Celtic. This achievement led to wild celebrations, with supporters spilling onto the pitch.
The scenes attracted criticism, but O'Neill, Celtic's boss, remains resolute in his position. He said: "I couldn't care less. I think I say too much at the end of the day."
O'Neill added that if the roles were reversed, and Hearts had won, he would have understood their fans' euphoria.
"But if you take the bigger picture at the end of the day, if they had won... and their crowd had come on to celebrate with their players that is something I would have accepted," he said.
He recognises the disappointment of losing on home turf but insists that the euphoria of a hard-fought victory is understandable.
He stated: "If Hearts had won and their away fans had come onto the pitch... I would have accepted that there because it's the first time they would have won the league for years and years and years."
