The New York Giants hosted defensive tackles Jahmeer Carter and Taki Taimani for workouts on Monday, continuing their search for interior line help amid ongoing run-defense concerns.
Neither player was signed immediately.
Carter, a 6-foot-2, 311-pound undrafted free agent from Virginia in 2026, brings extensive college experience. He appeared in 69 games for the Cavaliers, recording 164 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, and 2.5 sacks. After signing with the Los Angeles Chargers as a free agent, he was waived during final roster cuts and released from the practice squad shortly afterward.
Taimani, listed at 6-foot-1 and 324 pounds, entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Minnesota Vikings in 2024 after playing at Washington and Oregon. He appeared in nine games over two seasons, totaling four tackles, before being waived from injured reserve (IR) in late September.
The workouts come as the Giants have struggled to contain the run. Through five games, the unit ranks near the bottom of the league in both rushing yards allowed per game and yards per carry, with depth behind starters such as D.J. Reader and Shelby Harris remaining a clear issue.
The front office has already explored other defensive line options this season as the team looks to stabilize the interior and reduce the number of chunk runs allowed.
Monday’s sessions reflect an ongoing effort to bolster that group as the season progresses. Whether either player factors into the Giants’ plans remains to be seen.
