Believe it or not, Ruben Amorim was Manchester United’s head coach during this calendar year.
The Portuguese tactician was sacked by the Red Devils 10 months ago, in January 2026, after he had effectively talked himself out of the job through criticism of the club hierarchy.
It feels like an awful lot has happened at the club since.
One thing is the same – the quips at United senior figures keep coming, even despite the change of manager. Defender Lisandro Martinez recently pointed his finger at Director of Football Jason Wilcox, and Michael Carrick just can’t seem to stem the tide of controversy.
Meanwhile, Amorim has moved on. While Manchester United are experiencing their worst start to a season in 40 years, with just one Premier League win after seven matches, the 41-year-old is continuing his managerial ventures.
Amorim now coaches Italian giants, AC Milan. The Serie A side are unbeaten after seven league games and sit fourth in the table. It’s a brilliant start in comparison.
Despite the promising start, the side are looking to keep evolving.
According to Fabrizio Romano on X, AC Milan are in advanced talks to appoint Markus Krösche as the club’s new Head of Football.
It’s a swoop that comes on the same day as Krösche exited Eintracht Frankfurt, clearly with the move from Germany to Italy in mind.
Krösche will have the job of working with Ruben Amorim, something higher-ups like Jason Wilcox struggled to do at Manchester United.
Amorim will now presumably answer to Krösche. The dynamic will be interesting to see.
The Portuguese boss is clearly doing well in Milan, but it’s early days still.
As Manchester United assess their next steps, amid a dreadful start to the season, Ruben Amorim is unlikely to be paying too much attention.
