Sheamus has backing from two major AEW stars who would like to see him join the promotion. However, a move to AEW does not appear to be happening anytime soon.
The former WWE Champion became a free agent earlier this month, sparking intense speculation about his future after nearly two decades with WWE. Sheamus’ departure from the company became clearer on July 10, when he changed his social media name to his real name, Stephen Farrelly, and shared a farewell message.
According to Fightful Select, AEW does not seem to be in a hurry to sign Sheamus. While some big names in the company reportedly want him to join, it is unclear whether Sheamus has spoken directly with AEW about a possible deal.
“There doesn’t seem to be a huge urgency in bringing him in, but there are some heavy hitters like Claudio Castagnoli and Adam Copeland that have made it clear that they would like him there. Sheamus has had talks with other companies. I don’t know if he’s had direct talks with All Elite Wrestling, but nothing seems imminent,” the report stated.
The report offers some hope to fans who want to see Sheamus in AEW. Claudio Castagnoli and Adam Copeland are both established names in AEW. Their support could make Sheamus a big addition to the company.
However, support from current AEW stars does not mean a deal is close. Fightful’s report points out that there is no major urgency to sign Sheamus. It also notes that he has spoken with other wrestling companies.
It is still unclear whether AEW has approached Sheamus or held any talks with him. AEW has often been careful when dealing with wrestlers who are still under contract with other promotions. Tony Khan and his company have always remained silent until someone from the rival company gets signed.
