Michael Carrick is on the brink at Manchester United, and is expected to be fired.
In the Manchester United pressure cauldron, no head coach can realistically expect to survive the club’s worst ever start to the Premier League season. Michael Carrick is no exception.
Carrick desperately needed a win, or at the very least a spirited performance. His Manchester United players delivered neither, serving up a 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth.
Fans at Old Trafford applauded Carrick, a club legend who will always be welcome at the club, before venting their frustrations towards the players and board.
Yet it it still expected to be Carrick who pays the price with his job.

I think Fabregas would be a very very good appointment for Man United. Gives me vibes of when Arsenal hired Arteta. Young manager with so much potential. Will need time to sort the mess out but he’s the one. The new special one.
Problem is it is Berrada and Wilcox deciding Carrick’s fate
The decision to sack Michael Carrick will be recommended by chief executive Omar Berrada and technical director Jason Wilcox, who were both in attendance at Old Trafford.
Berrada was pictured on Sky Sports broadcast shaking his head in frustration at the team’s performance.
Berrada and Wilcox will make their recommendation to Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who will give them permission to fire the head coach.
Ratcliffe could in theory decide to sack Berrada and Wilcox from their posts along with Carrick if he felt it appropriate. Manchester United supporters would like this to happen, amid serious misgivings over the former City pair.
Sky Sports report that United were considering alternatives to Michael Carrick before the Bournemouth game.
They now add: “The United hierarchy will now accelerate that process, with an expectation from insiders at the club that Carrick will be relieved of his duties.”
Carrick admitted that he had ‘no expectations’ over his own future, when asked after the game.
But you could tell as he walked around the Old Trafford pitch after the game that he looked like a man who knew his spell was at an end.
The process of hiring a new manager is surely already ongoing, with United In Focus running the rule over 11 replacements following the Como defeat.
