A high-quality entry list, led by Armenia’s Alina Charaeva, who has just broken into the world’s top 100, will compete in the World Tennis Tour W100 event, the biggest women’s tournament, outside of the grass court season, in the UK this year.
The first qualifying round starts on the indoor courts at Wrexham Tennis & Padel Centre on Sunday morning, with the main draw matches beginning next Tuesday.
“Hopefully some of the other British players can enjoy excellent runs at this year’s event and we look forward to welcoming them and all the international players to Wrexham,” said tournament promoter Dave Courteen.
“The overall entry list for this year’s tournament is significantly stronger than 12 months ago, which is great news for spectators looking forward to the return of world-class women’s tennis to North Wales.
“We have a lot of players from the world’s top 200, including a number currently ranked in the top 150, so that’s fantastic for the tournament.”
In last year’s all-British final, Mimi Xu managed to get the better of Mika Stojsavljevic (pictured), but neither player will be in Wrexham for the second staging of the tournament.
