Pundit Jamie Carragher has backed Oliver Glasner to be a success at Nottingham Forest - provided the club are patient with the Austrian.
It has not been the start to the season the Reds had hoped for under their new head coach. After seven games, they are 19th in the Premier League table and head to Ipswich Town on Friday night (8pm kick-off) looking to halt a run of three straight defeats.
A failure to capitalise on good opportunities has proved costly so far this term, including at the weekend when Forest were punished by Arsenal scoring with their only shot on target. Carragher is confident Glasner can turn that form around, but he has warned owner Evangelos Marinakis has not been afraid to change managers in the past.
Asked by Sky Sports Austria if Glasner is the right man to get the Reds up the league table, the former defender said: “Yeah, he will. Nottingham Forest won’t get relegated. I know they’re in the bottom three now.

“They were really good (in Sunday’s 1-0 defeat). I watched the game and even when Arsenal scored, after that Nottingham Forest had two or three really good chances and should have got an equaliser. They played really well at Anfield (a 2-2 draw with Liverpool) and were unlucky not to win that game.
“The only problem Glasner has is who the owner is. Now, the owner is very quick to change managers. You wouldn’t be surprised if in the international break or maybe around Christmas they change the manager.
“Not because Glasner has been terrible but it almost feels (like) at Nottingham Forest you have to be really good as a manager to keep your job there. He’s not shy in changing it.”
From the start, Glasner has said it will take time to get Forest where he wants them to be. He has underlined the need for stability at the City Ground after becoming the fifth man in the hot seat in barely a year.
Last term, Nuno Espirito Santo, Ange Postecoglou, Sean Dyche and Vitor Pereira all had spells in charge. The latter guided the Reds to the Europa League semi-finals and secured top flight safety but was replaced by Glasner in the summer.
Glasner was a free agent after leaving Crystal Palace at the end of the campaign. He had enjoyed a trophy-laden stint in the capital - winning the FA Cup, Conference League and Community Shield - and Forest hope he can repeat that feat by bringing silverware to the East Midlands.
“The reason he (Marinakis) has brought him in is because Glasner has an amazing ability to win trophies for teams that people don’t expect it (from),” Carragher continued. “So, if you’re Nottingham Forest, their owner is, ‘I just don’t want to accept being a team who sits in the middle of the table or fights to stay in the league, we want more than that, my ambition is to bring trophies back’.
“Who is a manager who wins trophies at clubs of a similar size to Nottingham Forest? That’s Glasner.
“What he’s done at Crystal Palace is just like the greatest moment in their history. It will never be repeated again probably at Crystal Palace, what he’s done. And that’s what Forest want.
“It’s just probably important that the owner gives him the opportunity to do what he normally does. At Eintracht Frankfurt he had great success in the past as well; that’s why Palace brought him in and he did it there as well. I think if he’s given enough time he can take Forest close to a trophy.”
