WWE star reportedly injured during main event match, referee signaled ‘X’

A WWE star was reportedly injured during the main event match of a recent house show, with a stretcher being brought out.

October 16 saw WWE NXT stars in action in Sudsbury, with the main event seeing Shiloh Hill, Tavion Heights, Tony D’Angelo and Shawn Spears in action against BirthRight (Lexis King, Charlie Dempsey, Uriah Connors, and Channing ‘Stacks’ Lorenzo).

During the match, which would end with Connors being put through a table for the BirthRight loss, it appears that Lorenzo suffered a legitimate injury.

According to multiple sources, Lorenzo hit his face on the ring post, before landing hard on his back, with a number of fans in attendance sending their support to the injured star.

In the breakdown of the results on WrestlingBodyslam, it’s noted that the referee threw up the X signal, indicating the severity of the injury, with medical personnel bringing a stretcher to the ring.

Further details emerged on X, with one fan noting that it was a “very scary moment” and revealing:

“Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo hit his face on the post after an out of the ring spot and landed really hard back bump on the floor.”

Last night’s episode of WWE SmackDown also saw injury, with R-Truth taking a rough bump from a Dropkick that saw his match against Damian Priest stopped by the referee.

At the time of writing, there is yet to be official confirmation as to the injury suffered at the NXT house show.

Working safe

Injuries in professional wrestling are not uncommon, and it’s easy to think that stars are working in a more risky way for whatever reason justifies such an opinion. Much energy can be expended on the “shoulda, woulda, coulda”, but it amounts to little when dealing with the real-world incident and what comes next.

When it comes to the majority of injuries, it is entirely accidental, with a spot not going to plan, whether it be through a misstep, mistiming or other unexpected moment.

‘Working safe’ is what wrestlers are trained to do, with WWE having put plenty of effort into fostering that mindset. Speaking earlier this year, Finn Balor revealed he felt he was “wasting” his career in NXT, revealing that the WWE Performance Center coach Terry Taylor explained that they were equipping him to continue to work for “another 10 years”.

Bronson Reed would also reflect on the injury he suffered at Survivor Series WarGames in 2024 and the advice he had received from Triple H in the form of a reassuring conversation that focused on rehabilitation. WWE creative may have been derailed, but the longevity of the star is clearly at the forefront of considerations.

Lorenzo signed with WWE in 2022 and has become a familiar face on NXT, primarily through The D’Angelo Family and now with BirthRight. A two-time NXT Tag Team Champion, he has benefitted from the skills taught through the WWE Performance Center, with this injury hopefully being a bump in the road towards a potential main roster call-up.

WrestleTalk wishes Channing Lorenzo well in his recovery from injury.
