ORLANDO, Fla. -- Dior Johnson scored 28 points and grabbed seven rebounds, and UCF took control in the second half to beat Yale 87-75 on Friday night.

Johnson was coming off a 41-point performance in a season opener — the fourth highest single-game total in program history since joining Division I in 1984. He also set the UCF DI record for points in a season opener and become first Big 12 player to score at least 40 points in a season opener.

Johnson extended his streak of consecutive 20-point games to six against Yale. He spent last season at Tarleton State where he averaged 24.0 points per game and was named the Western Athletic Conference sixth man of the year along with Second Team All-WAC.

UCF trailed Yale 42-39 at halftime despite Johnson's 19 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field and 6 of 6 at the free throw line. The Knights outscored Yale 48-33 in the second half as the Bulldogs shot just 39%.

After Yale tied it at 61-all with 10 minutes left, John Bol began UCF's 13-0 run as the Bulldogs went three-plus minutes without scoring. Isaiah Malone capped the run on a 3-pointer with 7:44 left and UCF led by double figures the rest of the way.

Arturo Dean, Riley Kugel and Elijah Hulsewe each added 10 points for UCF (2-0), which opened the season with a 96-95 overtime victory over FGCU. All of Dean's points came in the second half.

Riley Fox led Yale (1-1) with 24 points. Trevor Mullin added 17 points, Courtney Wallace scored 14 and Jordan Brathwaite had 11. Fox made four of Yale’s 10 3-pointers.

Yale: Plays at Baylor on Tuesday.

UCF: Hosts South Alabama on Tuesday.
