What Louis Oosthuizen said after meeting LIV’s new investors now looks completely laughable

In yet another shock blow to LIV Golf, Louis Oosthuizen is out the door.

The South African was one of the tour’s biggest supporters and was widely expected to be one of the few notable names to stick around for LIV 2.0. LIV’s South African event was one of their biggest successes, and he seemed to enjoy his time on the breakaway league.

Instead, Oosthuizen is the latest in a long line of players to scramble for the lifeboats when the tour hit the iceberg. Jon Rahm, Sergio Garcia, Tyrrell Hatton and many more have severed ties with LIV this fall.

Before LIV’s demise, these same players said it was important to them to grow the game worldwide by playing team golf. That’s been proven to be nonsense by how quickly they abandoned the tour.

And what Oosthuizen said after meeting with LIV’s new investors just months ago now looks completely laughable.

Before the end of the LIV season, LIV Golf supporters were cautiously optimistic the tour could keep going with a number of stars still on board. They’d found new investors, players like Cameron Smith were expected to stay, and while it wouldn’t look like it did before, LIV 2.0 could be a functioning tour.

Oosthuizen even said that players around the league were looking forward to the new project. Speaking to Beyond the Clubhouse at LIV New York, he said, “I think everyone’s positive and ready for the next season.

How costly has Jon Rahm's decision to join LIV Golf been for his career?

His lawyer has announced he will not be involved with LIV 2.0

“It’s obviously a bump in the road, but everyone’s here for the same goal of playing team golf and, going forward, having fun together and playing all over the world.

“I think that’s still the main objective for most of the guys. Unreal to get the investors lined up and see how good we can do this going forward.”

As it turns out, almost no one is excited about the new project. Only Richard Bland, Cameron Tringale, Ben Campbell, and Brendan Steele have declared interest in joining the tour for next season.

Oosthuizen made these comments just months ago, and we have since discovered they were total nonsense.
