Chargers WR Ladd McConkey ruled out with concussion early vs. Chiefs after awkward tackle

The Chargers are looking for their first win of the season on Sunday afternoon in Kansas City.

The Los Angeles Chargers lost wide receiver Ladd McConkey early on Sunday afternoon in Kansas City.

McConkey went down with a concussion in the early stretch of their matchup with the Chiefs after his head awkwardly slammed into the field at Arrowhead Stadium. McConkey caught a short pass and broke up the middle for 17 yards on their second drive of the day.

But as he was being brought down near midfield, McConkey's head slammed into the ground hard. He left the field on his own, but was spotted walking back to the locker room with a towel over his head early in the second period.

The Chargers very quickly ruled McConkey out with a concussion. Further specifics of his injury, or how long he may be sidelined, are not yet known.

He finished with just one catch for 17 yards on Sunday. McConkey entered the contest with 183 receiving yards and a touchdown on 12 catches this season, his third in the league. The 24-year-old did not play last week in their loss to the Denver Broncos due to a foot injury he suffered in Week 4, though he was cleared to return on Sunday.

The Chargers have yet to win a game this season, and entered Week 6 as one of just two winless teams throughout the entire league. The Chiefs, meanwhile, have won four straight to start the season and led 9-3 after the first quarter on Sunday, thanks in part to a 33-yard touchdown run from Kenneth Walker.
