The New England Patriots can't seem to find consistent availability at wide receiver. A.J. Brown missed a month after suffering a high ankle sprain early in the season-opening loss to the Seattle Seahawks, and now Romeo Doubs is on the shelf.
Doubs, who signed a four-year, $68 million deal this offseason, injured his shoulder on a 42-yard touchdown pass last week against the New York Jets. The Patriots placed him on injured reserve while coach Mike Vrabel didn't shut down the possibility of the injury being season-ending.
The injury comes at an inopportune time for Drake Maye, who's turned it around after a rough start to the season. Maye will now be directing more attention to Brown, DeMario Douglas and tight end Hunter Henry, among others.
Here's what we know about Doubs' status as the Pats prepare for a big test against Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears.
Even Vrabel doesn't know. The injury could potentially end Doubs' season.
