Nikola Jokic has remained adamant about his future with the Denver Nuggets. He has consistently said he plans to re-sign with the team after the 2026-27 NBA season. However, that won't stop rival NBA teams from playing the "what if" game regarding the three-time NBA Most Valuable Player.
No matter how small the chances, opposing teams are obviously monitoring Jokic's impending (likely short) free-agent stint. And among those teams, it appears the Golden State Warriors on likely on the list of teams that we can file under "hoping and wishing." While the Warriors have whiffed on a few high-profile potential additions in the last year or two, they don't seem to expect a drastic move by Jokic, but as NBA insider Jake Fischer said on SiriusXM NBA Radio's Deals and Dunks, they're "rubbing their hands together" with hope.
Fischer admitted the Warriors are among the teams wondering if everyone's "sure Jokic isn't going to become available."
"The Warriors are one of those teams out there that are looking around and rubbing their fingers together and thinking, 'Are we sure Jokic isn't going to become available next summer?'" Fischer said. "They are one of those teams that hopes, 'We could have max cap space, we've got Steph Curry.'"
Fischer cited a source around the Warriors who pointed out that the team still very much believes it's a destination, even after missing out on Giannis Antetokounmpo during trade conversations and Kevin Durant opting not to return to the Bay Area.
After how well the Warriors have played lately, it's easy to buy that, and as the days go on, Golden State's appeal should keep growing, especially if their recent six-game win streak is any indication.
