Amit Mishra is set to begin a new chapter as the former Indian leg-spinner has been appointed as Delhi Capitals' spin-bowling coach ahead of IPL 2027. Amit Mishra, who retired from the game last year, will now use his knowledge to help his former IPL team as the spin-bowling coach.
Mishra's appointment is a special moment, as he enjoyed some memorable years with the Delhi Capitals franchise as a player. Known for his sharp leg breaks, deceptive googlies, and clever variations, he was one of the most successful spinners in IPL history.
The former leg-spinner’s experience of playing for different franchises and representing India across formats could prove valuable for Delhi in the upcoming IPL 2027 season. Amid this, Gujarat Titans officials question Ashish Nehra over backing Rahul Tewatia and 2 others before IPL Auction.

Amit Mishra represented Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals), Deccan Chargers, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL from 2008 to 2024. In 162 matches, he picked up 174 wickets at an economy rate of 7.38, with a bowling average of 23.82 and a strike rate of 19.37.
The former spinner’s best figures were 5/17, and he claimed four four-wicket hauls, one five-wicket haul, and 12 Player of the Match awards. His biggest achievement remains his record of three IPL hat-tricks, the most by any bowler in the tournament.
Mishra took one hat-trick for Delhi Daredevils against Deccan Chargers in 2008, another for Deccan Chargers against Kings XI Punjab in 2009, and his third for Sunrisers Hyderabad against Pune Warriors India in 2013. He was also the first bowler to take a hat-trick for the Delhi franchise.
Among IPL spin bowlers, the former Indian leg-spinner sits only behind Yuzvendra Chahal (233), Piyush Chawla (192), Sunil Narine (207), and Ravichandran Ashwin (187) in the all-time wicket list.
Mishra represented India in 22 Tests, 36 ODIs, and 10 T20Is between 2003 and 2017. He took 76 Test wickets, 64 ODI wickets, and 16 T20I wickets. His best figures were 5/71 in Tests, 6/48 in ODIs, and 3/24 in T20Is. He took one five-wicket haul in Tests and two in ODIs.
The former leg-spinner was also part of India's 2013 ICC Champions Trophy-winning squad. Apart from the ball, Mishra also contributed with the bat as well. He scored 648 test runs, including four half-centuries, and had a highest score of 84. He also scored 43 runs in ODIs.
Speaking about domestic cricket, Mishra managed 535 wickets in 152 first-class matches, including 21 five-wicket hauls for Haryana. He also scored a first-class double-century. In List A cricket, he took 252 wickets in 153 matches, while his overall T20 record saw him take 285 wickets in 259 matches.
The former Delhi Capitals spinner Amit does not have much coaching experience, and the DC stint will be his first mega project.
During his heyday of his playing career, Mishra also guided many younger players and shared tactical advice. As Delhi Capitals' spin-bowling coach, Mishra will now focus on helping bowlers improve their line, length, variations, and wicket-taking ability.
His experience of Indian pitches and high-pressure IPL could become an important advantage for DC as they aim for a strong IPL 2027 season.
