Andre Russell gave fans a glimpse of his power-hitting abilities during the second match of the Nepal Premier League (NPL) 2026, but his explosive cameo could not help Biratnagar Kings complete their run chase against Chitwan Rhinos at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur on October 28. Chasing 158 for victory, Biratnagar were bowled out for 149 in 19.3 overs to suffer an eight-run defeat. Russell walked in at No. 6 and smashed 33 runs off just 17 deliveries, including one four and four sixes, at a strike rate of 194.12.
Russell shifted the momentum during the 15th over, launching Mousom Dhakal for two sixes off the first two balls he faced from the bowler. He cleared the ropes over deep mid-wicket and mid-on to keep Biratnagar in the hunt. The West Indies all-rounder continued his assault in the following over against Kamal Singh Airee.
He struck the pacer for two more sixes, sending one over mid-off and the other over mid-wicket. However, Russell’s attempt to hit another big shot on the next ball he faced ended his innings. Dev Khanal took the catch off Airee’s bowling, leaving Biratnagar without their most dangerous batter at a crucial stage of the chase.

Earlier, Chitwan Rhinos posted 157/3 in their 20 overs after Biratnagar Kings opted to bowl first. Dawid Malan top-scored with 70 off 50 deliveries, hitting five fours and five sixes. Malan shared an opening stand of 58 with Dev Khanal, who scored 12. Ravi Bopara and Dan Mousley then provided a late push with an unbeaten partnership of 67 runs. Bopara made 32* off 26 balls, while Mousley contributed 29* off 22.
Russell picked up Malan’s wicket and finished with figures of 1/39 from four overs. However, Biratnagar’s chase fell short despite contributions from Imran Sheikh, who scored 39, and Lokesh Bam, who made 26. Airee led the bowling effort with figures of 4/26, while Rijan Dhakal claimed two wickets for 25 runs. Airee’s performance earned him the Player of the Match award as Chitwan secured an eight-run win.
