The New York Jets’ season has officially ended, not mathematically, but emotionally and, at this point, realistically. It’s no surprise their season is effectively over, nor that it happened in October. Jets fans will be firing up their mock draft simulators with their three first-round picks, hoping that next year will finally be the year New York ends its playoff drought. But that’s not the only firing on their minds, as calls continue to mount for Jets head coach Aaron Glenn to be fired.
Glenn is still searching for his first AFC East win, and he’ll have to keep waiting. Losing to a 0-5 Dolphins team that hadn’t held a lead all season before Sunday has New York up in arms. Jets fans have seen enough, with many calling for Glenn to be fired before he gets another chance to coach a divisional game.
“If Woody Johnson doesn’t fire Aaron Glenn TONIGHT, he is an UNserious owner. I CANNOT watch this unprepared, losing SLOP *any* longer,” said Danielle McCarton, a WFAN radio host.
“Woody Johnson is a horrible owner. Aaron Glenn is an awful Head Coach. Frank Reich is a terrible Offensive Coordinator. What a horrible franchise,” added writer Peter Schwartz.
The Jets showed promise early in the season, but timely blunders left them sitting at 2-4 entering Week 7. In embarrassing fashion, the Jets played catch-up for the entire game and couldn’t get it done when it mattered. Glenn’s game management has been largely criticized, and once again, his team was dominated in the final two minutes of the half.
“I’ve seen quite enough of the Aaron Glenn,” added columnist Mike Vaccaro.
“The Jets just lost to the 0-5 Miami Dolphins. Another new low for this team. Aaron Glenn …. yikes,” said Jets beat reporter Zack Rosenblatt.
The season was on the line, and the team fell flat. A team that needed to win this game to move to 3-4 and host a winnable game at home in Week 8 was outplayed by a winless team that is clearly rebuilding. There’s no more patience for this in New York, and fans are tired of the same old story.
“Today should end ANY conversation about Aaron Glenn as the Jets head coach,” added another WFAN host.
“If you’re still defending Aaron Glenn after today, you’re not a serious person. The Jets have talent. This roster is NOT as far away from winning as the results suggest. But they will NEVER win with this head coach. Losing to an 0-5 Dolphins team that hadn’t held a lead ALL SEASON until today should be the final wake-up call for anyone still making excuses for Glenn. It’s over,” said Jake Asman.
Garrett Wilson’s lack of involvement in the offense has been concerning for Jets fans. He is the best playmaker that New York has, and they don’t seem to be looking to feed him the ball with urgency.
Wilson is the 12th-ranked receiver in PFN’s WR Impact Rankings and had just two catches for 26 yards. He was visibly frustrated late in the game on the sideline, and Jets fans will be hoping that the loss won’t force him to ask out of New York.
The Jets are going to host the Las Vegas Raiders next week with little hope for the rest of their season. The loss leaves the Jets’ playoff hopes in serious trouble, and Glenn will likely be headed for the unemployment line sooner rather than later.
