The numbers dictate a grim reality regarding the Las Vegas Raiders’ passing defense. Through seven games, the Raiders rank 22nd in passing yards allowed (230.1) and 20th in opponent completion percentage (65.77) per game according to TeamRankings.com.
Worse yet, the are giving up 7.7 yards per completed pass, the fifth-worst rate in the league. But to further highlight the Raiders’ struggles in containing their opponents’ passing attack.
Results from Fantasy Points Data shows the 30 worst defensive backs who defended at least 21 targets through the season’s first seven weeks.
Among them are Raiders safety Jeremy Chinn and cornerback Taron Johnson. Chinn, who signed a two-year, $16.25 million contract with the Raiders last year, has allowed an average passer rating of 119.2. While Johnson, who was acquired this offseason in trade with the Buffalo Bills, has allowed a 117.6 passer rating.
Though those are numbers that Raiders defensive coordinator Rob Leonard would want to improve on, they are nowhere near those at the top of the list such as Miami Dolphins’ Jason Marshall, who has allowed a 151.0 passer rating, Washington Commanders’ Mike Sainristil at 143.5, or Chicago Bears’ Tyrique Stevenson allowing a 142 passer rating.
