The Minnesota Vikings are expected to be active ahead of next month's trade deadline. Sitting at 5-0, the team is in prime position to bolster its roster, which features an elite defense and a flawed offense that has shown flashes of potential.
After the Indianapolis Colts fired general manager Chris Ballard on Monday, many believe several of their players are on the trade block. Among the most intriguing is ninth-year guard Quenton Nelson.
Alec Lewis of The Athletic believes Nelson, a three-time first-team All-Pro, could be an upgrade not only in 2025 but also long-term. Lewis listed Nelson as a potential target for the Vikings as the trade deadline approaches.
"Fortifying this group could take on many forms," Lewis wrote on Monday. "The Vikings could target a bench option who’s capable of filling in for [Joe] Huber, center Blake Brandel or right guard Will Fries. The team could also find a talented player to replace one of its current starters, which would be a more dramatic move but one that could help in the longer term."
Nelson has an 89.2 PFF grade through six games, with only six pressures allowed. He would replace Huber this year, though it would create an interesting conundrum when 2025 first-round pick Donovan Jackson returns from his meniscus tear.
Still, it may be a problem worth having down the road. Indianapolis appears ready to hit the reset button, and that could lead to Nelson being traded. Keep an eye on the Vikings potentially targeting him.
