All-Pro defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons is good at a lot of things, but the "Good, Better, Best" chant was not one of them after the Chicago Bears’ 34-17 win against the Seattle Seahawks.
Simmons had not even been with the Bears for a week before Monday night’s game against Seattle and head coach Ben Johnson’s "Good, Better, Best" postgame chant is unlike anything any other head coach in the NFL does. During the footage of his "Good, Better, Best" after Monday’s win, it was clear Simmons did not know the words yet. But he has been studying film on YouTube and promised to be ready for Chicago’s next game.
“I definitely been on YouTube trying to figure that, make sure I’m good for next game,” Simmons said. “Next game, especially I’m in the camera like that, I know the words. I’ll be ready.”
Luckily, Simmons has his college teammate, edge rusher Montez Sweat, to help him learn the words. They did a lot of winning together at Mississippi State. Simmons also got to experience a winning culture in his first three years in the NFL during his time with the Tennessee Titans. However, the Titans have not had a winning season since 2021, so this is the first time Simmons has gotten to be part of a winning culture in five years.
“When you winning, great things happen and when you’re a part of something like that after a game, you’re doing something good and to feel the energy, feel the excitement from everybody in the locker room after a game,” Simmons said. “It’s great to be a part of.”
Chicago is currently heavy favorites over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for their next game on Sunday Night Football. So, barring anything catastrophic, Simmons will get to say the "Good, Better, Best" chant along with the rest of the Bears in the locker room after the game.
