‘It’s Really Embarrassing’ — Eagles Legend Blasts Nick Sirianni’s Staff for Being ‘Outcoached’ Against Panthers

LeSean McCoy, who retired in 2021 as the Philadelphia Eagles’ all-time leading rusher, used the Dallas Cowboys to mock Nick Sirianni’s team and sum up his former team’s slide. His comment came a day after a 25-14 home loss to the Carolina Panthers dropped the Eagles to 2-4 and handed Sirianni his first four-game losing streak as head coach.

LeSean McCoy Blames Coaching for Eagles’ Latest Loss

McCoy admitted that he currently understands how Cowboys fans must feel, pointing to the Eagles’ ongoing struggles, and highlighted that Sirianni was outcoached by the Panthers.

“We cannot pick up the blitz at all. We couldn’t do nothing with the blitz. And they blitzed us all day,” McCoy said. “You got a quarterback that’s young, right, that’s a backup. We’re going to put the game in his hands, we’re going to blitz him.”

“There were so many plays where they didn’t give him a chance. Dropping passes, not making adjustments as coaches. We just did so much, and it’s really embarrassing,“ he added.

“The loss shows that it’s not Jalen Hurts,” McCoy continued. “Because them guys were just coming in unblocked. I mean, and the running backs couldn’t block a soul. So I’m like, ‘Damn, ya’ll don’t know who to block.’ Not only you can’t block, you don’t know who to block. There’s so many holding calls. There were so many calls where I’m seeing the protection and I ain’t been playing football for five years, and they’re not even making the right calls.”

“So, a lot of issues today (were on) the offensive line and the coaching. This is the first game where I can say, ‘Okay, you know what? We got outcoached.'”

The problems have increasingly pointed beyond the players on the field. Philadelphia has struggled to adjust when defenses bring pressure, establish a consistent rushing attack, and find answers when its initial offensive plan stalls. Those issues have put more scrutiny on Sirianni and his coaching staff, especially after McCoy argued that the Eagles were outcoached against Carolina.

The quarterback change did little to solve those problems. Hurts, who ranks 22nd on PFN’s QB Impact Metric, was placed on injured reserve on Saturday after being diagnosed with a blood clot in his calf. McKee’s first start of the season came without Saquon Barkley, who missed his second straight game with a hamstring injury.

Philadelphia punted on its first five possessions and finished with 222 total yards, including 35 rushing yards on 13 carries, while the Panthers held the ball for 34:48.

McKee completed 26 of 45 passes for 215 yards and a touchdown without an interception, but Carolina sacked him three times and hit him 11 times. He also averaged 2.43 seconds to throw, the third-shortest time among 27 qualified quarterbacks in Week 6.

The result added to a troubling trend. Philadelphia opened the season 2-0 but has now lost four straight, with the offense struggling to consistently counter pressure or sustain drives during the skid.

After the loss to the Panthers, Sirianni didn’t shy away from admitting that the team needs to make changes, saying everything is now on the table.

“To do the same thing over and over again and not get the results, that’d be foolish,” Sirianni said.

McKee, a 2023 sixth-round pick now in his fourth season with Philadelphia, is in line to start again when the Dallas Cowboys visit in Week 7.

Despite the slide, the Eagles sit second in the NFC East, behind the New York Giants, who fell to 3-2-1 with a 34-27 loss to the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. After the Cowboys game, the Eagles play the Washington Commanders on November 1 and host the Giants on November 8.
