Norwegian journalist Erlend Borren Kristoffersen, a reporter for TV 2 Sporten, caused a stir on X after claiming that Barcelona are closely monitoring Gabriel Wesseh, an 18-year-old American winger who currently plays for Norwegian side Fredrikstad.
“Barcelona have sent scouts to the stands for two matches to watch him play,” the Norwegian journalist said. According to his information, Barça are not the only club interested in Wesseh, although they are the biggest name in the race.
Benfica and Club Brugge, two clubs known for identifying and investing in young talent before selling players for significant profits, are also reportedly interested in the youngster, who is under contract with Fredrikstad until 2030.
Scouting reports highlight Wesseh’s pace, dribbling ability and versatility, with the winger capable of playing on either flank. He previously spent time in the Atlanta and Philadelphia academies during the early stages of his career in the United States.
Wesseh has already made his debut for the United States U-19 team and is regarded as one of the promising players of his USMNT generation. For now, he will remain in Norway’s top flight, although a move to a bigger European club could become a reality next season.
