The Arizona Cardinals reportedly were going to sign veteran wide receiver Zay Jones following the season-ending wrist injury to receiver Jalen Brooks. However, when the Cardinals announced roster moves on Wednesday, it wasn't quite the signing most expected.
Jones was not signed to the active roster. He was signed to the practice squad.
The Cardinals announced that offensive lineman Kingsley Eguakun was signed from the practice squad to the active roster, filling the vacancy created by Brooks landing on injured reserve.
Eguakun was signed to the Cardinals' practice squad at the beginning of the month. He is an interior lineman and has been in the league since 2024 when he signed as an undrafted rookie with the Detroit Lions. He spent the 2024 season on the practice squad. In 2025, he played four games, starting twice, for Detroit. He also spent time on their practice squad and on the Cleveland Browns' practice squad.
He was elevated to the active roster last week to be the Cardinals' backup center because starting right guard Jon Gaines was out with an ankle injury. Hayden Conner, who had been serving as the Cardinals' backup center, started at right guard, so Eguakun was added to be the backup the Hjalte Froholdt.
This move suggests that Gaines could be out at least another week.
Jones instead goes to the practice squad, adding depth there. Jones played the last two seasons for the Cardinals and is in his 10th NFL season. He had 20 catches in two seasons for the Cardinals.
This is what the Cardinals' 17-man practice squad looks like as the Cardinals practice in Week 8:
RB Jerome Ford
WR Shedrick Jackson
WR Zay Jones
WR Harrison Wallace III
TE Shawn Bowman
TE Kenny Yeboah
OL Austin Deculus
OL Valentin Senn (international exemption)
DL Damonic Williams
OLB Cameron Robertson
OLB Bradyn Swinson
ILB Riley Wilson
CB Art Green
S Wydett Williams
