Detroit Lions make large leap in CBS Sports' Week 6 power rankings

After posting a 3-2 record through their first five games played of the 2026-27 regular season, how do the Detroit Lions stack up in CBS Sports' Week 6 NFL power rankings?

Thanks to a stellar offense and its best defensive performance of the season, CBS Sports' Pete Prisco moved Detroit up eight spots to No. 12 in his latest NFL power rankings.

The Lions are currently tied for the league's highest-scoring offense (32.8 points per game), led by record-setting play from running back Jahmyr Gibbs and quarterback Jared Goff.

In the Lions' 45-21 dismantling of the Arizona Cardinals on Oct. 11, Goff threw for 271 yards and three touchdowns, and registered his first rushing touchdown since 2023 with a second-half sneak. Meanwhile, Gibbs rushed 25 times for 151 yards and two touchdowns.

While the Lions' secondary issues are still a significant concern, safety Brian Branch has opened his 21-day practice window. The expectation is that Branch will be placed on the active roster at some point this week, and ready to make his return against the Green Bay Packers.

The Lions opened up three roster spots with their moves on Friday, paving the way for returns from both Branch and center Cade Mays.

Detroit's secondary is surrendering the most passing yards per game (297.4), and the Lions' defense is allowing the most total yards per game (404.4) in the NFL.

With the Lions idle this weekend for a Week 6 bye, they will look to continue their momentum when they return on Oct. 25 to face the Green Bay Packers at Ford Field at 4:25 p.m. ET on Fox.
