West Indies registered a convincing eight-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the first Test of the 2026 series at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur. After taking a first-innings lead, the visitors bowled Bangladesh out for 142 in their second innings before completing a comfortable chase of 170.
The result earned West Indies 12 points in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 cycle, while Bangladesh failed to collect any points from the match. The victory also has an impact on the teams' positions in the WTC standings as both sides continue their campaign.
Bangladesh, who elected to bat first, posted 272 in their opening innings. Shadman Islam led the batting effort with a patient 105 off 234 deliveries, hitting 11 boundaries. Towhid Hridoy contributed 42 from 86 balls, while Litton Das added 34 off 88 deliveries.
However, Bangladesh struggled to build substantial partnerships throughout the innings, with West Indies' bowlers regularly making inroads. Jomel Warrican was the standout performer, claiming five wickets for 53 runs in 23.4 overs. Joshua Bishop and Shamar Joseph picked up two wickets each, while Jayden Seales took one.
West Indies responded with 245 runs, finishing 27 runs behind Bangladesh's first-innings total. John Campbell scored 54 from 78 deliveries, while Tagenarine Chanderpaul contributed 56 off 184 balls. Justin Greaves made 46 from 103 deliveries, and captain Roston Chase remained unbeaten on 43 from 60 balls.
The Bangladesh bowlers kept the visitors from taking a first-innings lead, but the hosts were unable to carry that advantage into their second batting effort.
Bangladesh's second innings proved to be their biggest setback. The hosts were dismissed for just 142 in 48.4 overs, leaving West Indies with a target of 170 to win the match.
Nayeem Hasan was the top scorer with 52 from 91 balls, including four boundaries. Jaker Ali made 22, while Shadman Islam scored 13. The rest of the batting order failed to make significant contributions as West Indies kept taking wickets at regular intervals.
Roston Chase led the bowling attack with five wickets, while Warrican added four to his tally. Shamar Joseph also claimed one wicket, leaving Bangladesh unable to set a more challenging target.
West Indies made light work of the chase, reaching 170/2 in 35.1 overs. Brandon King remained unbeaten on 81 from 115 balls, striking 10 fours and one six. John Campbell supported him with 49 off 55 deliveries, while Kaveem Hodge finished unbeaten on 31 from 27 balls.
The visitors eventually secured an eight-wicket win, with King and Hodge remaining at the crease when the target was reached.
