Hearn And Warren Let The Wolf In, Says Lou DiBella

Lou DiBella isn’t buying the victory lap from boxing’s old guard over Zuffa’s early struggles, pointing out that rival promoters helped clear the path for TKO to muscle into the sport to begin with.

Shakur Stevenson walking out the door gave rival outfits an easy talking point, but grabbing free publicity does not suddenly balance a promotion’s checkbook, pack an arena, or supply the massive purse Stevenson expects.

DiBella cut through the noise to ask what these traditional promotional companies are actually gaining from the chaos.

“Is Eddie all of a sudden thriving? Does he have no worries? Is Oscar and Golden Boy great? Is Top Rank’s business getting better? Is anything changing?” said DiBella to Total Boxing.

Taking a victory lap looks hollow when signing an elite free agent immediately turns into a costly headache. Any promoter chasing Stevenson must still lock in an opponent, secure a broadcast budget, and generate enough public interest to justify the deal. Cheering because a fighter hits the open market costs nothing; financing his next outing is another matter entirely.

DiBella also turned the spotlight directly onto Eddie Hearn and Frank Warren for ushering Saudi influence into boxing.

“Who’s most responsible for letting the wolf into the hen house of boxing promotion? It’s Eddie Hearn and Frank Warren.”

Relying on external money delivered massive blockbusters, yet it built an independent power structure capable of pursuing fighters and television rights without needing the old establishment. Whining about an aggressive rival rings hollow after rolling out the red carpet for them.

Even as Zuffa hits growing pains, DiBella believes TKO still holds an edge in sheer muscle, deep political ties, and premier North American broadcast real estate.

“They still have better political and business connections. They still have the best TV deals in North America.”

Those advantages might not guarantee creative matchmaking or commercial success on their own, but deep pockets and broadcast reach give an enterprise plenty of room to absorb early stumbles.

DiBella admitted that everyone inside the sport shares blame for its fragmented condition. Still, his message lands with a thud: taking cheap shots at Dana White brings easy attention, but building a sustainable, busy boxing calendar takes real execution that no competitor can manufacture off another brand’s bad headlines.
