Bruce Hopes He’s The Man To Turn Things Round

Rotherham United’s Head Coach Alex Bruce was ‘very disappointed’ with his teams performance in the two-nil loss at Fleetwood today.

Speaking to the Official Site the Millers Boss said, ‘I felt we could have played a little bit more in the first half though I was reasonably pleased in the way we defended our box and in the shape of the team. The message at half-time was more of the same defensively but can we try and pose more of an attacking play and keep the ball a bit better. Then we came out for the second half and conceded in the first minute from a set-play then give the game away by conceding another one in a similar manner.

‘For large parts of the second-half we looked like the team who were going to equalise. But when they made it two-nil we let our heads drop and the disappointment of the ten days we’ve just had takes over.

‘It’s the basics like not defending the box better that’s undone us today. We had chances where we put balls in their box but didn’t make the ‘keeper work enough. I’ve told the players that we’ve got two home games now and we need a response.

‘It’s only a few weeks ago we went to Northampton and won an ugly one-nil and the confidence was there. You have a bad performance at Exeter and the manner of the way the game was last week and all of a sudden they look low on confidence. But, the only way out of that is to roll up your sleeves and have a go and get yourselves out of the issue you’ve put yourselves in.

‘I’ve also said to the players that the personnel keeps changing because you’re not winning. So when you’re not winning and you keep going down in games you make changes to try and get a reaction which was the situation today and the four lads who came on the pitch when we were one down the reaction was there. Fitzy (Jayce Fitzgerald) had an impact and got on the ball and so did Klaidi (Lolos) too.

‘But we need a win to lift the confidence and moral. I could do with some players back fit and until we get that then we will just have to roll our sleeves up and keep going. And we are now going to see who the characters are, who the men are, who the ones are who are going to respond.

‘I have got confidence in the players to turn this bad ten day around. We’ve got two games coming up that are very winnable and all my efforts and concentration have to be into that.

‘I feel for the supporters and everybody associated with the club. It’s been a tough time for a long time and we’ve got to work tirelessly to change this moment, change this swing and I’m sure a couple of results will give us confidence and hopefully we can go on a run and turn it round. And I hope I’m the man to turn it round, I really do.’
