Chicago Bears tight end Cole Kmet is believed to have suffered a season-ending knee injury, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport.
Kmet left Thursday's 30-24 win early after completing a catch and run and going down awkwardly near the sideline. Head coach Ben Johnson feared that the news wouldn't be good, and it seems those fears have been realized.
A seven-year veteran, Kmet is the longest-tenured Bears player on the team. He was the team's second-round pick in 2020 out of Notre Dame and has played with three different head coaches, eight offensive coordinators, and two general managers. All of this while compiling over 3,000 receiving yards to join Mike Ditka as the only Bears tight ends to accomplish that feat in team history. Kmet totaled 10 receptions for 87 yards and a touchdown this season.
With Kmet likely out for the year, the Bears will need to rely on rookie Sam Roush to fill the void at the tight end position to go along with Colston Loveland.
