Anthony Hernandez seeks 'more answers' after switching gyms and management

Anthony Hernandez has decided to change things up after his first-career losing skid.

Anthony Hernandez has decided to change things up after his first losing skid.

Hernandez (15-4 MMA, 9-4 UFC) is coming off two-straight losses to current UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland, and most recently Gregory Rodrigues in the UFC Fight Night 285 headliner in August.

That prompted Hernandez to sign with Vayner Sports for management, and make the move out to Las Vegas.

"It's been great, man," Hernandez told Home of Fight. "I signed with Vayner and now they've pretty much just been overseeing my stuff, and I've been just trying to re-dial in Vegas. I'm out there basically training full time and just a little change of things for my life. I'm to the point of my life where I feel like I've got to sharpen up, stay sharp – and then the (UFC Performance Institute) is amazing for it to do all that sh*t.

"The staff, the diet, everything is all there. So, it's been making my life super easy. I'm actually way leaner than I've ever been like all the time. I'm just trying to stay sharp, get through, get settled in Vegas and then hopefully next year I can get back in the cage."

Hernandez spent his most recent training camp at Xtreme Couture, and he plans on continuing to train there alongside Strickland.

"(I'm) trying to get better every day with a core group of guys, and we're making adjustments," Hernandez said. "If we beat each other, we tell each other what we've got to do to adjust. Every day's 1 percent better, which is what you need to do to be the best, you know? And honestly, I've been having such a great time out there. The gun laws and all the cool sh*t that you can't have in California ...

"I've got a whole house there. I've got a house in Vegas and then (Sacramento), and I've been bouncing back-and-forth, getting my kids through school. I need grandparents' help, so it's been amazing having them there to do that. But next year, my oldest starts driving, so I'll take everybody to Vegas and then I'm just going to live out there and hammer down until the rest of my career, and then probably move back to my ranch and call it a day."

Hernandez went from an eight-fight winning streak on the cusp of title contention, to back-to-back definitive losses. So, what went wrong?

"Honestly, just not staying in the gym," Hernandez said. "It's just like where I went wrong, to be honest. I was hurt, and I was trying to rehab sh*t. So it is what it is. Gregory's a tough motherf*cker if you're healthy. I got my leg chopped off. So right now for me, it's just get better, get sharper, get more answers against high-level guys every day. That's pretty much right now my focus: Have fun with martial arts, and then the rest will iron itself out."
