The San Francisco 49ers are bringing back one of their old NFL draft picks. San Francisco has signed former Georgia Bulldogs pass rusher Robert Beal Jr., who was most recently with the Miami Dolphins.
Beal signed with Miami as a free agent this offseason. He appeared in two games with Miami this season and posted one tackle. Beal played defense and special teams for the Dolphins. Beal was released to make room for Jamree Kromah, who the Chicago Bears recently released.
Beal is 27 and was a fifth-round pick in the 2023 NFL draft by the San Francisco 49ers. Beal has appeared in 27 career NFL games including 25 of those with the 49ers. Beal has 37 career tackles and one career sack, which came during his rookie season in 2023.
The 6-foot-4, 265-pound edge rusher missed four games this season for Miami after suffering a hamstring injury. He returned to practice and was full participant this week. However, Miami elected to move on from Beal. The former Georgia defensive end is a great athlete and posted 9 1/2 sacks over his final two seasons at UGA. He won national championships with Georgia in 2021 and 2022 (his two most productive college seasons).
