Former LSU women's basketball star Angel Reese fell short of winning a WNBA championship on Saturday night as the Atlanta Dream lost 68-63 to the Golden State Valkyries in Game 7.
Reese played 32 minutes and grabbed 12 rebounds, but scored only eight points and made three field goals. It was an up-and-down series for Reese. She scored 20+ points on multiple occasions but also had several single-digit games.
Despite the Game 7 performance, Reese had a strong playoff run. She averaged 16.1 points and 11.0 rebounds per game. She was a factor on defense, too, with 1.4 steals and 1.7 blocks in the postseason.
Reese was traded to the Dream preseason and played a key role in Atlanta's success. Atlanta wasn't considered a favorite to win the Eastern Conference prior to the season, but the group gelled and exceeded expectations.
Atlanta led 30-24 after the first half, but Golden State outscored the Dream in the third and fourth quarters.
