Daily Record journalist Keith Jackson has recalled being in contact with Brendan Rodgers on the evening Celtic announced the manager’s resignation, offering his account of the hours before the news became public.
Jackson was discussing the circumstances surrounding Rodgers’ exit with fellow journalist Michael Gannon on Monday’s Daily Record Hotline Live, almost a year after the Northern Irishman’s second spell at Parkhead came to an end.
That position was also confirmed in a Celtic PLC regulatory announcement published the following morning.
During Monday’s discussion, Jackson reflected on the uncertainty surrounding Rodgers’ position before Celtic made their announcement.
The journalist referred to communication he said he had with the former Celtic manager earlier that evening.
He said: “Well, that very evening, I was in a communication with him. And at that point, and it was early evening, Brendan Rodgers wasn’t aware that he was about to resign. Or be resigned.”
However, CeltsAreHere understands that Rodgers resigned. Following his departure, Martin O’Neill and Shaun Maloney were initially placed in charge of the Celtic first-team, with O’Neill subsequently continuing as manager.
Rodgers departed following Celtic’s 3-1 Premiership defeat away to Hearts, with his relationship with the club’s hierarchy already attracting considerable attention.
Following the resignation announcement, Desmond released a separate statement criticising Rodgers’ conduct and communication during the preceding months.
The disagreement formed part of the wider background to the manager’s departure, although it does not establish the circumstances of any private conversations on his final evening at the club.
During Monday’s Hotline Live discussion, there was also speculation about what may have happened later that night.
However, those suggestions remain unverified, and the discussion did not establish that Rodgers was dismissed or confirm the terms of any financial arrangement.
The club’s official position remains a matter of public record: Rodgers tendered his resignation on 27 October 2025, and Celtic accepted it with immediate effect.
