Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams confronted Prime Video analyst Richard Sherman after the team’s Thursday Night Football win over the New England Patriots.
The Bears secured the win at Soldier Field with Williams completing 22 of 33 passes for 308 yards and two touchdowns. Kicker Cairo Santos also delivered a crucial moment, converting a career-long 58-yard field goal to match Chicago’s franchise record. The kick came on fourth-and-15 with just over 90 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, extending the lead to two possessions.
New England responded with a field goal to reduce the deficit to six points before attempting an onside kick, but the Patriots were unable to complete the comeback.
The victory lifted Chicago to 5-2 for the 2026 NFL season, leaving the Bears two games behind the undefeated Minnesota Vikings in the NFC North. “These nights are awesome,” Williams said after the game.
“You play against another good team on a primetime game in a short week, these games are awesome because you get to see who you are as a team. That’s who we are. We’re a smashmouth football team, an innovative team. And when things happen and things don’t go our way and the water is rocky, we stay steady.”
The former No. 1 overall pick joined Amazon Prime Video’s Thursday Night Football team to discuss his performance in his second game back since suffering a hamstring injury. "That time off, it added a little bit more to me," Williams said. "I'm a keep using, I'm keep bringing that energy, that fire in my eyes. I'm a release it to my teammates, and hopefully to the fans. They feel my energy."
Williams also took the opportunity to address former NFL cornerback and Prime Video analyst Sherman directly. "Hopefully we can get into your top five [teams]," he said directly to the former Seattle Seahawks Super Bowl champion. "I see it all."
Williams’ comments came after he believed Sherman had left the Bears out of his top five teams through the first seven weeks of the season on his podcast.
However, the former NFL cornerback had actually ranked Chicago fifth, behind the San Francisco 49ers, Kansas City Chiefs, Buffalo Bills and Minnesota Vikings.
Williams’ blunt response left Sherman laughing and banging his hands on the table, with the analyst briefly lost for words during the exchange. "He watches the podcast," Sherman responded. "I like that. I had them winning this game. Of course they make my top five."
Chicago has emerged as a genuine contender through the opening seven games, with its offense performing strongly under head coach Ben Johnson and the defense complementing the unit. Williams has also continued to develop, producing three impressive performances in his last four games.
The quarterback has thrown for more than 300 yards in each of his last two outings, further strengthening his case as one of the league’s rising stars.
The Bears will now have an extended break before facing the Seahawks on Monday Night Football in Week 8.
