Former India captain Harmanpreet Kaur delivered a memorable batting performance in the second Women’s ODI against Zimbabwe, bringing the Vadodara crowd to life with a magnificent century at the BCA Stadium in Kotambi. Walking in when India needed stability after losing two early wickets, the experienced batter took responsibility and guided the innings with a commanding display. The landmark hundred was her eighth in Women’s ODIs and also helped her achieve a significant milestone in home conditions.
Harmanpreet showcased her experience and composure after India suffered early setbacks in the contest. Rather than allowing the pressure to build, she settled into her innings and gradually shifted the momentum in the hosts’ favour.
Her ability to combine patience with attacking strokeplay proved crucial as she kept the scoreboard moving while ensuring India regained control. As she moved closer to the three-figure mark, the atmosphere at the Kotambi venue grew increasingly electric, with fans celebrating another special moment from one of Indian cricket’s most accomplished batters.
The century further underlined Harmanpreet’s importance to the Indian batting lineup. Her contribution was particularly valuable after the early dismissals, as India needed an experienced player to steady the innings and build a platform for a competitive total.
The century also brought Harmanpreet another notable achievement in her illustrious career. During her 72nd Women’s ODI appearance on home soil, she crossed the 2,000-run mark in India, demonstrating her consistency in familiar conditions. She has accumulated these runs at an average of more than 37, with her record featuring 14 scores of 50 or more, including four centuries.
Harmanpreet has now joined an exclusive group of Indian batters to have scored at least 2,000 runs in home Women’s ODIs. Former captain Mithali Raj leads the tally with 2,833 runs, while current skipper Smriti Mandhana has registered 2,701. The milestone highlights Harmanpreet’s longevity and continued influence in the 50-over format. Across different phases of her career, she has remained a dependable option for India, particularly when the team requires an experienced batter to navigate challenging situations.
Harmanpreet’s latest hundred also strengthened her position among India’s leading century-makers in Women’s ODIs. With eight centuries to her name, she has moved ahead of Mithali, who finished her career with seven hundreds in the format. She has also edged past Mandhana in the tally of centuries scored by Indian women batters in home ODIs. Mandhana remains ahead of Harmanpreet in the overall international list, having registered 14 ODI centuries for India.
Alongside her eight hundreds, Harmanpreet has accumulated 24 half-centuries in the format. Her career tally has now surpassed 4,630 ODI runs at an average of more than 37. The landmark performance in Vadodara adds another chapter to Harmanpreet’s remarkable journey in Indian cricket. More than just an individual milestone, her century demonstrated the value of experience under pressure and provided India with a timely boost in the ongoing series against Zimbabwe.
