The 2026 NFL campaign is just reaching the midway point of the regular season.
But you might not find a wilder play than this fumble by Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts.
With the visiting Cowboys facing a 3rd-and-12 in their own territory, while holding a 20-17 lead, Indianapolis brought the blitz against quarterback Dak Prescott. With several pass rushers in his face, Prescott got off a throw to Lamb along the right sideline. Because Prescott was unable to step into the throw, the pass was underthrown and Lamb had to break back to the football.
Which he did, making a diving catch in front of rookie cornerback Kenneth Harris.
And that is exactly when the chaos began.
Harris slipped on his own break, and that allowed Lamb enough separation to make the diving catch. But Harris never touchdown Lamb down, who alertly got to his feet and raced upfield, picking up a block as he sliced into the red zone.
That’s when he was tackled, lost the ball, and following a challenge from Colts head coach Shane Steichen, Indianapolis took over possession.
You can see the entire sequence here:
The FOX Sports booth speculated that because he is a rookie, Harris believed in the moment that Lamb did not need to be touched down. After all, in the college game once a player goes to the ground with the football, they are down at that spot and the play is whistled dead.
Instead, he gave Lamb a chance to pick up additional yardage, only for the Dallas WR to fumble the ball away after what was, for a brief moment, a brilliant play.
And no one was happier for that fumble than Harris.
