Pat Monahan of Train made an appearance at the Monday Night Football game between the San Francisco 49ers and the Washington Commanders this week.

The 49ers headed into the game still undefeated. In turn, it was perhaps not too surprising that they came away with a 23-17 win on the night.

But while San Francisco’s start to the season has been impressive, much of the talk on social media about the game has focused on Monahan performing the national anthem with his son pre-game.

Fans hit out after Train’s Pat Monahan and his son performed the national anthem at 49ers vs Commanders game

Train, a band from San Francisco, have won multiple awards during their career, including picking up Grammys for ‘Best Rock Song’, ‘Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist(s)’ and ‘Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals’.

However, a number of fans were not too keen on Monahan and his son’s version of the national anthem at the 49ers game.

One fan wrote: “What in the world was that? Easily the worst national anthem ever!”

A second stated: “Maybe THE worst national anthem I’ve ever heard. Good grief. Who booked this? You’re FIRED!.”

Another echoed: “As someone who was around for Carl Lewis and Roseanne… that might have been the worst rendition of the National Anthem I’ve ever heard.”

“Anyone else watching MNF was that the worst national anthem rendition you’ve ever seen?” asked a fourth.

A fifth stated: “That was probably the worst rendition of the national anthem I’ve ever heard. Yikes.”

Another added: “Worst national anthem I’ve ever heard and I was subjected to the 2024 home run derby debacle in person!”

And a seventh stated: “That was the worst rendition of the national anthem I’ve ever heard,” while tagging the 49ers’ X account.

It was also called a ‘historically bad performance’ by another account who shared a clip of it happening.

Still, 49ers fans won’t much care as their team are now 6-0 after another solid display.
