Chelsea are one of three teams who are interested in signing Brighton defender Luka Vuskovic, according to reports.
TEAMtalk claim that the Croatian international is a “superstar in waiting”, who has impressed the Blues, Bayern Munich and Barcelona since making the switch to the South Coast in the summer.
Vuskovic left Tottenham for the Seagulls in a deal worth £46m back in July. Spurs did include matching rights and a 20% sell-on clause as part of the transfer, but crucially, no buyback option was agreed.
It means the 19-year-old could end up at any team if he chooses to leave the Amex in the future.
The teenager is already dominant in the air, and he is not bad with his feet either, but there are concerns about his lack of pace.
Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler has used Vuskovic mostly in a back four so far, but at the top level, he may have issues keeping up with pacey forwards.
If Chelsea were to make a move for him at some point, he would probably be best deployed in the middle of the back three, with two faster centre-halves like Josh Acheampong and Levi Colwill either side of him.
It is unlikely that the club’s interest in Vuskovic will be firmed up in the short to medium term, with the centre-half having moved teams just over three months ago.
Xabi Alonso’s side are set to focus on reinforcing another position during the January transfer window. Finding a replacement for Enzo Fernandez is the priority, with Bournemouth’s Alex Scott seemingly the top target. Cherries owner Bill Foley has recently admitted that the 23-year-old has not signed a new contract, as he is hoping to join a bigger club.
