Ohio State moved to the third spot in the nation after a win over Indiana last Saturday.
But they might be without starting quarterback Julian Sayin for the rest of the regular season, and potentially the post-season.
Sayin suffered an elbow injury in the second half of last Saturday’s win over Indiana, and was replaced by freshman quarterback Luke Fahey following the injury. Sayin left the Ohio State sideline and was evaluated in the locker room after the injury, and later returned to the sideline with his throwing arm in a sling.
Meeting the media on Tuesday, Ohio State head coach Ryan Day outlined that while he would not dive into details about the injury — giving the Sayin family privacy — that the team is putting into place a plan to be without Sayin for the rest of the regular season, and potentially a Big Ten Championship Game as well as the College Football Playoff:
Fahey attempted two passes against Indiana, both of which fell incomplete. He was rated as a three-star prospect out of Mission Viejo High School in Mission Viejo, California, and the 35th quarterback overall in the 2026 recruiting class.
While in high school, Fahey threw for over 7,000 yards as he saw action in all four years, throwing for 68 touchdowns and only nine interceptions during his high school career. During his sophomore year he helped Mission Viejo win a CIF State Division 1-AA championship title.
During his senior year, Fahey completed 207-of-292 passes for 3,199 yards and 25 touchdowns, against only three interceptions.
And now, he is the starting quarterback for one of the top-ranked teams in college football.
