As we’ve written often now, no matter how fun it might sound, the Cincinnati Bengals probably aren’t going to be interested in Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor at the NFL trade deadline.
A shocking asking price for Taylor from the Colts will likely keep the Bengals at bay.
Saturday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport followed up on that idea yet again, revealing the Colts are “sitting on an offer of a second-round draft pick and more.”
That “and more” is probably the dream-ender for Bengals fans. We could maybe talk about the Bengals being willing to cough up a second-round pick for an elite running back. This is an organization and franchise that was willing to spend a second-rounder on a blocking tight end like Drew Sample, after all.
But the other factors enter the mix and pretty much shut it down. Taylor’s on a big contract and they still really like Chase Brown. Depth is a need at running back, but there are lesser-known ways and less costly ways to fix that while boosting the Brown-led rotation.
And hey, for fans, it’s still fun to think about the possibilities, especially now that the Bengals authored the Dexter Lawrence blockbuster. But if one had to guess, the Bengals probably aren’t the team with an offer in to the Colts right now about Taylor, all things considered.
