Virat Kohli Reacts After Fan Throws Plastic Bat Onto Field During India Vs New Zealand ODI

Virat Kohli found himself at the centre of another viral moment during India's second ODI against New Zealand after a spectator threw a small plastic bat onto the field, prompting a quick reaction from the former India captain.

The incident took place during New Zealand's innings in the rain-affected match in Wellington on November 7. A video showing Kohli responding to the object being thrown from the stands subsequently circulated on social media, attracting attention from cricket fans.

Kohli was stationed near the boundary when the miniature plastic bats landed on the playing area. The objects were reportedly thrown by young spectators hoping to get the Indian batter's attention and possibly secure his autograph.

Rather than ignoring the incident, Kohli picked up one of the plastic bats and returned it towards the stands. He also appeared to gesture towards the spectators, signalling that throwing objects onto the field was not appropriate.

The brief exchange quickly became a talking point online, with fans sharing the footage and discussing the cricketer's response. While the intention behind the gesture may have been to get a player's attention, spectators are expected to avoid throwing anything onto the playing surface.

Virat Kohli's interaction with spectators goes viral

Kohli has frequently attracted attention from supporters during India's matches, particularly when fielding close to the boundary. His interactions with fans often become popular online, whether they involve autograph requests, conversations or spontaneous gestures.

This time, however, the focus was on the manner in which the spectators attempted to approach him. Throwing objects onto the field can interrupt play and create potential safety concerns for players and officials.

The incident did not develop into a major disruption, but the footage offered another glimpse of the attention Kohli continues to receive from cricket supporters.

India beat New Zealand to take 2-0 series lead

The incident occurred during a match that ended in a narrow victory for India. New Zealand were bowled out for 134 in 41 overs, with Daryl Mitchell top-scoring with 55. India's revised target was 113 in 26 overs following rain interruptions. The visitors reached 113/7 in 26 overs, finishing four runs ahead of the DLS par score to secure a four-run win.

Gurnoor Brar played a crucial role with the ball, taking four wickets for 30 runs to earn the Player of the Match award. Shreyas Iyer contributed 30 runs, while KL Rahul remained unbeaten on 26. Rahul also attracted attention after the match for gifting his Game Changer of the Match smartphone award to a female stadium staff member.

India's victory gave them a 2-0 advantage in the five-match ODI series. The teams are scheduled to meet in the third ODI in Hamilton on November 10. While the result strengthened India's position in the series, Kohli's reaction to the plastic bat incident became one of the match's most widely shared off-field moments.
