Manchester United's trip to Como has a serious threat of being cancelled due to a severe weather warning.
United are poised to play their third Champions League game of the season in Lombardy against Cesc Fabregas' side.
But the fixture at the 13,600 capacity Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia may not go ahead due to heavy rainfall - with 64mm of rain forecast ahead of the match and the conditions continuing until the action concludes.
The Italian Air Force National Meteorological Service have issued an orange weather warning, which includes a danger of lightning and thunderstorms.
A video doing the rounds on social media showed the situation at the stadium, where only one of four stands is sheltered.
Como are understood to be confident their pitch will hold up and United boss Michael Carrick said his team are "used to the rain" and will "make the most of it".
However, extreme weather could be a threat to the safety of wellbeing of players and supporters - with a postponement possible.
UEFA's guidance on what happens in the event of a postponement is very clear, with Article 27 of the 2026/27 regulations stating that the following day is always the very first option but not a requirement.
The document states: "If, on the day of a match, it is decided that the match cannot begin as planned or cannot be completed, the full match—or the remaining minutes—shall, in principle, be played the following day; this is without prejudice to any potential disciplinary measures. To this end, the home clubs must make all necessary arrangements to ensure that the required facilities are available and can be used."
That could still work for United, who are in action against Bournemouth on Sunday. Como, however, would have a shorter turnaround for their next game as they host Sassuolo on Saturday in Serie A.
Should it not be possible, UEFA will look to reschedule the game for another date at the same stadium - any change in this aspect such as venue or kick-off time would require approval from the European football governing body.
Article 27 continues: "If the match cannot be rescheduled for the following day, the UEFA administration shall determine a new date. Such rescheduling may necessitate deviations from the regular match calendar.
"In principle, a rescheduled match shall be played in the same stadium. If circumstances require a change of venue, the new stadium must be approved by the UEFA administration.
"In all cases, the UEFA administration must approve the stadium and set the new kick-off time, taking into account the needs of the teams, where possible."
United, who are six games without a win, have a free midweek coming up as they are not in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup following a 3-2 defeat to Brighton last month.
Como would struggle to fit the game in next week though as they are due to play Torino at Olimpico di Torino on Tuesday.
Because the potential postponement is due to the weather and not the fault of any club, it is confirmed that "both parties shall bear their own respective costs associated with both the original fixture and the rescheduled match".
United have reportedly based themselves in Milan, around one hour away from Como, as hotels were deemed too small or not up to standard.
Como are playing in the Champions League for the first time and had to receive permission from UEFA to play home games at their own stadium.
