While Marquinhos remains a pivotal figure for Paris Saint-Germain, the Parc des Princes hierarchy have already begun laying the groundwork for his eventual succession. At 32 years of age, the stalwart defender has amassed 531 appearances for the club, collecting two Champions League titles alongside an enviable haul of domestic and international honours. Yet, even with his contract running until 2028, PSG are proactively weighing up long-term alternatives in the heart of their backline.
According to Ekrem Konur, 21-year-old Ismaëlo Ganiou is among the prime targets being monitored by the Parisian outfit. Fichajes reports that the defender is currently on the books at Lens, where he is tied down until 2030 and carries an estimated price tag of around £25 million. Admiration for the youngster has gathered pace following his eye-catching development over recent campaigns.
Standing at 1.82 metres tall, Ganiou has earned plaudits for his awareness when defending the space in behind and offers valuable versatility, equally comfortable operating in central defence or at right-back. The defender previously represented France at youth international level before making his senior debut for Burkina Faso, his parents' homeland. His progress is set to encounter a temporary halt, however, with a surgical operation expected to briefly sideline him from action.
