Former Florida quarterback Kyle Trask is getting another NFL opportunity, this time back in his home state.

ESPN’s Todd Archer saidThe Dallas Cowboys signed Trask to their practice squad Tuesday, according to ESPN’s Todd Archer. Dallas later officially announced the transaction, adding Trask as its third quarterback behind Dak Prescott and Sam Howell.

Trask fills the practice-squad spot previously held by Joe Milton III, who was signed to the Philadelphia Eagles’ active roster last week.

Dallas is the fourth NFL organization for Trask. Tampa Bay selected him in the second round of the 2021 NFL draft, and he spent four seasons with the Buccaneers before brief stops with the Atlanta Falcons and Carolina Panthers. Trask spent this past offseason with Carolina before being waived during final roster cuts.

The Manvel, Texas, native has appeared in seven regular-season games during his NFL career but has yet to make a start.

Trask’s professional career has yet to resemble the prolific finish to his time at Florida. He completed 552 of 813 passes for 7,386 yards and 69 touchdowns across 28 appearances with the Gators. His breakout 2020 season remains one of the best quarterback seasons in program history.

Trask threw for a school-record 4,283 yards and 43 touchdowns that season, led the nation in touchdown passes, and finished fourth in Heisman Trophy voting. His 43 passing touchdowns also broke Danny Wuerffel’s previous Florida single-season record.

Now, the former Gator has another chance to stick in the NFL.
