‘Almost Felt Personal’ — NFL Insider Wonders if Ryan Fitzpatrick’s Explosive Bo Nix Rant Was ‘Prompted by the Broncos’

The Denver Broncos walked away with a 17-14 overtime win over the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday Night Football, but Bo Nix’s latest performance raised more questions than answers. The Denver Broncos walked away with a 17-14 overtime win over the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday Night Football, but Bo Nix’s latest performance raised more questions than answers. The third-year quarterback finished with just 107 passing yards, no touchdowns, and no interceptions as Denver struggled to find rhythm on offense.

Nix’s uneven performance quickly became a talking point after the game, particularly after Ryan Fitzpatrick offered a pointed assessment of the QB on Amazon Prime Video’s postgame show.

Fitzpatrick did not hold back in his criticism, and the strength of his remarks stood out to many fans. Even Mike Florio later questioned whether Fitzpatrick’s comments were simply a reaction to Nix’s performance or if something else may have prompted them.

Mike Florio Questions What Prompted Ryan Fitzpatrick’s Bo Nix Rant

Fitzpatrick was blunt in his assessment of Nix following Denver’s win over Seattle. “Bo Nix is not playing competitively… It’s almost disrespectful to the quarterback position how he’s playing football right now… He has no trust from his coach… I can only imagine how Sean Payton feels,” Fitzpatrick said.

The strength of those remarks caught Florio’s attention. Speaking on “PFT Live,” the NFL insider said Fitzpatrick’s rant was unusually harsh for a postgame broadcast.

“It almost felt personal,” Florio said. “It almost felt coordinated… And I’m just giving you my reaction from watching it. I don’t know if anyone put Ryan Fitzpatrick up to that… Either Ryan Fitzpatrick and Bo Nix have some beef that we were not previously aware of or somebody kind of gave him the nod: ‘You’re doing the Broncos a favor.'”

Florio then noted that while TV analysts occasionally critique players harshly, criticism that strong is rarely seen from an analyst on a national broadcast.

While Florio questioned the intensity of Fitzpatrick’s criticism, Nix’s numbers show why the young quarterback has come under scrutiny this season.

Denver has struggled to get much going through the air, and the stats tell the story.

Through six games, Nix has completed 114 of 189 passes (60.3%) for 1,049 yards. He’s averaging fewer than 175 passing yards per game and just 5.55 yards per attempt. His 66.5 PFN QB Impact Score ranks 29th among NFL quarterbacks through Week 6.

Denver’s defense came through again against Seattle. Ja’Quan McMillian’s interception in overtime set up Wil Lutz’s game-winning 53-yard field goal, allowing Denver’s defense to bail out an offense that struggled for much of the night.

At 4-2, Denver is in a good position, but it will need more from its offense to keep winning consistently as the season goes on.

The Broncos face the Arizona Cardinals next Sunday, Oct. 25, giving Nix an opportunity to put Thursday’s struggles behind him and show signs of progress.
