The Carolina Hurricanes made the trip to Alberta, Canada, to play in the second half of their weekend back-to-back, facing the Calgary Flames in game two of their five-game Western Conference Road Trip.
The game is scheduled for 8:00 PM EDT.
In the Hurricanes’ last game – a 3-2 win over the Winnipeg Jets – they extended their winning streak to seven games straight – the longest active winning streak in the league. Additionally, Mark Jankowski extended his own goal streak to six, which is also the longest goal streak in the league.
That is to say, right now, the Hurricanes aren’t just hot – but they’re on fire. Oh, the irony of playing a team the very next day literally named after that element…
Anyway, you can read all about their last game right here!
Meanwhile, the Flames have had a bit of a rough start to their season. Of the seven games they have played, they have only won a single one – last Tuesday against the Anaheim Ducks – and at the time of writing, they sit at the bottom of the league standings. Nonetheless, this game will come off two days of rest for the Flames as the Hurricanes are not only on the second half of a back-to-back, but also with roughly 750 miles of travel squeezed between.
With Pyotr Kochetkov having started against the Jets Saturday, it is expected that the Hurricanes will rely on Brandon Bussi Sunday.
This season, Bussi’s goals against average is 2.95, with a save percentage of .871.
Meanwhile, the Flames have most frequently started Dustin Wolf this season, so with two days of rest, they will likely turn to him once again rather than Devin Cooley.
This season, Wolf’s goals against average is 4.85, with a save percentage of .834.
