Sheffield Wednesday have a growing injury list that’s beginning to really plague their form in League One.
Sheffield Wednesday have won one of their last five league games and suffered a 2-0 defeat to newly-promoted Notts County on Tuesday evening.
Henrik Pedersen is under pressure from supporters, and some feel he should be sacked, with former Stockport County boss Dave Challinor tipped to replace him.
That said, Pedersen will be desperate to get some key players back from the sidelines in the hope that it’ll improve his side’s concerning form.
We’ve created a table which looks at all 10 of the Wednesday players who are currently injured and when they could return to action.
Sheffield Wednesday have been struck by an absurd amount of injuries this season and it makes you think whether it goes beyond just being unlucky.
Are the players being overworked in training? Is Pedersen managing their minutes correctly? How are the recovery facilities at Middlewood Road?
These are all factors which Wednesday chiefs will have to have a closer look at, because the number of absentees is directly having an impact on the club’s promotion chances.
As seen below, Pedersen has 10 first-team players out of action at the moment, and there are four muscle injuries, which suggests players may be overworked.
| Player | Position | Injury | Status / Expected Return |
| Louie Barry | Attacker | Ankle injury | Due to return after November international break |
| Ricardo Santos | Defender | Groin injury | Undergoing final tests before returning shortly |
| Cole McGhee | Defender | Shoulder injury (required surgery) | Sidelined until December |
| Di’Shon Bernard | Defender | Knee injury | Waiting for the assessment to clarify extent of injury |
| Tyler Onyango | Defender | ACL injury | Out for the season |
| George Brown | Attacker | Hamstring injury (required surgery) | Set to return imminently |
| Sli Swinkels | Defender | Hamstring injury | Set to return imminently |
| Jordi Liongola | Defender | Hamstring injury | Due to return to training at the end of October |
| Joe Lumley | Goalkeeper | Rib injury | Being assessed |
| Liam Cooper | Defender | Unknown | Being assessed |
Anyhow, the positive news is that Louie Barry is due to return after the November international break, so he may only miss another three League One fixtures.
Barry was proving to be a talismanic figure at the start of the season, so his return will give The Owls a huge boost.
