Tommy Fury releases statement confirming Jake Paul fight offer hours after return confirmed

Tommy Fury has spoken out to reveal if he will fight Jake Paul after receiving a fight offer ahead of his comeback bout this Christmas.

In a surprise statement released on Thursday morning, Paul confirmed he would return to the boxing ring for the first time since his devastating knockout loss to Anthony Joshua on a card in Dubai taking place on Christmas Eve.

Paul's opponent is yet to be revealed, with a number of names linked with the fight, prompting former foe Fury to speak out and confirmed he has been offered a chance to headline the card in a remathc of their previous bout.

Tommy Fury confirms Jake Paul fight offer in official statement

Ever since Paul first stepped into the professional boxing scene, he and Fury have enjoyed a fierce rivalry and often exchange blows on social media.

The pair eventually met in the ring back in February, 2023, with Fury winning the fight by split decision over eight rounds, handing Paul his first professional defeat.

Since then, both men have been vocal about their desire to book a rematch to settle the rivalry once and for all, with Paul's comeback in December believed to be a potential date for the fight.

But now, Fury has confirmed that he will not be Paul's opponent for the comeback this Christmas, claiming that his rival's team deliberately offered him the rematch at a time they knew he couldn't commit to.

Posting on his Instagram story, Fury wrote: "Just wanted to make it very clear as to why the rematch with Jake hasn’t happened yet. His team came to me when I already had an agreed date in place elsewhere.

"Why would I then agree to a fight with Jake or anyone of that fact when I had already committed to another fight. He made me an offer knowing full well about the other date. I said publicly that I would fight Jake anytime after that date. Jan,Feb,March literally any time.

"Jake and his team love to play out to everyone that it’s me running from this fight when it’s very much the other way around."

As it stands, it is not known what Fury's next fight is, but we can now expect it to be announced in the near future if it's set to clash with Paul's comeback in December.

Instead, it's currently believed that former UFC star Darren Till is the frontrunners to fight Paul after Nakisa Bidarian, who co-founded Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) with Paul, confirmed that talks had been held about the fight.
