Manchester United host Aston Villa on Sunday hoping to build from their incredible comeback win in midweek against Roma in the UEFA Champions League.
Michael Carrick’s side were without a win in nine games before surging back from 2-0 down in the second half to win 3-2. Carrick’s side are still up against it in the Premier League but they played well in the first half at Chelsea last weekend before imploding in defeat in the second half.
Aston Villa lost 3-0 at Barcelona in the Champions League in midweek as Unai Emery’s new-look side continue to work through a massive rebuild. Still, Villa are unbeaten in their last five games in the league, winning three times, as Nicolas Jackson is leading the line superbly.

Manuel Ugarte, Benjamin Sesko and Luke Shaw remain out, while Lisandro Martinez is suspended after his red card last weekend. Carlos Baleba picked up an injury against Roma, while Marcus Rashford and Patrick Dorgu are still working their way back to fitness. Carrick doesn’t have many options at the moment but Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Amad Diallo and Bruno Fernandes in attack is a given. Kobbie Mainoo and Youri Tielemans (against his old club) are likely to start in midfield. Ayden Heaven will likely start alongside Harry Maguire at center back, while Shea Lacey is a real threat off the bench.
Amadou Onana and Matteo Ruggeri are out injured, while Matty Cash is suspended and his likely replacement at right back, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, is a doubt. After their defeat at Barcelona, Unai Emery will rotate with Alysson, Mbaye, Barkley and Goretzka likely to come in. Villa’s strength in depth is pretty impressive.
This feels like it will be very topsy-turvy, with both teams more comfortable playing on the counter. Manchester United 2-2 Aston Villa.
