In the case of the 2-4 Los Angeles Rams — a team that fancied itself a preseason Super Bowl contender — when it rains — it pours. (And Sean McVay probably runs to Amazon, eventually.)
Just one day after the ailing Rams took an embarrassing loss on the chin at the hands of the rebuilding Arizona Cardinals, Los Angeles revealed that superstar receiver Davante Adams ruptured his hamstring and will be out 6-10 weeks. That timeline feels optimistic for a ruptured hamstring in a 33-year-old receiver, though. It seems distinctly possible Adams has played his last game in 2026, which is a huge blow to everything the Rams are about. Woof.
As the Rams stand up and dust themselves off without one of their best players for the foreseeable future, here are a few replacement options they could consider for Adams, all of which would happen through a trade before the NFL's November 10th trade deadline.
A former No. 10 overall pick, Wilson hasn't been able to live up to his presumed potential, mostly because of the Jets' carousel of quarterbacks during his young career. Even so, if the Jets were willing to part with him, Wilson does have three 1,000-yard-plus seasons to his name. He could figure to be the exact kind of technician-playmaker who would thrive with a coach and quarterback like Sean McVay and Matthew Stafford, respectively.
Despite a promising rookie season, Thomas's inconsistency and drop issues have him in Liam Coen's doghouse in Jacksonville. It seems like a matter of when, not if, that the Jaguars finally trade him away. A deal with a desperate win-now team like the Rams would suit Jacksonville while giving Los Angeles the ability to get someone with Thomas's natural talent back on track.
At this point, it's been roughly two seasons since we could last take Addison as a credible, downfield receiving threat. Much of that has to do with the Vikings' tenuous quarterback situation of late, but still. Recouping some solid value on a player like Addison with a team option for 2027 would make sense for Minnesota and potentially give the Rams a fun deep threat to work with.
If the 1-5 Buccaneers are honest with themselves, they should probably already be in trade fire-sale mode. The 30-year-old Godwin, who has been plagued by injury issues in recent years, would likely be one of the first veterans to go. Godwin has likely lost a step to ever be the same impact playmaker he was during Tom Brady's heyday in Tampa Bay, but he would be a serviceable option for Stafford and Co.
