Rangers are looking to immediately put Saturday’s frustrating 2-2 draw with Dundee behind them, with a behind-closed-doors plan coming to light regarding a surprise match scheduled for today (Tuesday, 20 October).

Derek McInnes’ side saw their impressive seven-game winning streak come to a screeching halt at Dens Park over the weekend. Leading through a moment of brilliance from Nicolas Raskin, a costly second-half error from Dan Neil allowed Dundee back into the contest and forced Rangers to settle for a point on the road.

However, rather than dwelling on the dropped points ahead of the upcoming Premiership run-in, McInnes has taken immediate action behind the scenes. According to the Scottish Sun, Rangers are set to face Dundee for the second time in just 72 hours – this time in an unannounced bounce game designed to build match sharpness across the squad.

The primary objective of the secret fixture is to hand vital game time to high-profile fringe players and senior stars who were restricted to bench roles on Saturday (17 October) evening.

Among those likely to feature for Rangers is forward Bojan Miovski, who has found starting opportunities hard to come by this season. The striker will be eager to prove himself alongside experienced defender Ben Godfrey and summer midfield addition Vanja Dragojevic.

There has been a lot of talk among Rangers supporters regarding Dragojevic’s lack of playing time in recent years. The Serbian has not played a single minute for McInnes’ side in the Scottish Premiership since the 2-1 defeat against Hibernian on 9 August.

With Dundee also expected to bring several returning first-team players, including Ryan Finnigan, Charlie Reilly, and Joe Wright, the encounter will prove a genuine test of intensity.

Beyond first-team squad rotation, the match will also likely serve a double purpose for the Ibrox coaching staff. With Rangers‘ youth side preparing for their high-stakes UEFA Youth League opener against Dynamo Kyiv next week, McInnes and his academy staff may mix promising youth prospects into the clash against battle-hardened Premiership professionals.

For McInnes, the unannounced fixture offers a double benefit: allowing sidelined senior figures to state their case for a starting spot while ensuring the rest of the squad maintains maximum sharpness ahead of their clash against St Johnstone on Saturday, 24 October.

Details of the behind-closed-doors fixture, such as kick-off time and venue, are yet to be disclosed.
