he Las Vegas Raiders have hit a real bump in the road, having lost their last three games, which is raising questions over their quarterback situation.
First time head coach Klint Kubiak made veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins his starter ahead of the 2026 season. Through the opening three games, this looked like a masterstroke from Kubiak as the Raiders went unbeaten.
However, the last three weeks have been a lot more difficult for the Raiders as they have gone 0-3 against the Kansas City Chiefs, New England Patriots and the Buffalo Bills. With the Raiders hitting a spot of turbulence, Hall of Fame quarterback Kurt Warner has shared his verdict on potentially bringing Fernando Mendoza in as the starter.
During the last three games, Cousins has failed to throw for more than two touchdowns in each game. Against the Patriots he was only able to throw for one touchdown. However, the veteran has not been a turnover machine like Sam Darnold with the Seattle Seahawks.
“In my opinion, I don’t think they should as of yet. Again, I believe this team is not a great football team, but they’ve got some key pieces, including Kirk Cousins, that are making them competitive every time out. I just think it’s too early right now, with how competitive and how well Kirk is playing, to go to Fernando just yet,” Warner said on the Rich Eisen Show.

“It may come a time when you feel like this team is not good enough and not going to make a playoff push, and you make that move. I just don’t think the time is right now. I think Kirk gives them confidence right now that, hey, even if we’re not winning these games, we’re competitive every single time out. I think that is really important for that organisation right now.”
Next up for the Raiders is a game against the Los Angeles Rams which could provide them with a big opportunity to get their season back on track. The Rams lost again at the weekend against the Arizona Cardinals as their season continues to derail.

Top spot in the AFC West certainly looks a tough task for the Raiders, but they are still only one win behind the Denver Broncos, who have also looked far from convincing this season. Until the chances of a spot in the postseason is off the cards, Cousins feels like the way forward for Vegas.
